Bang & Olufsen is a high-end luxury Danish consumer electronics company that designs and manufactures audio products and television sets. NuCONNECT, one of their franchises, approached us to create the highest quality customised covers for their Beoplay A9 speaker. It was an opportunity for NuCONNECT to offer their customers a truly unique experience.
As well as designing a range of covers that would excite their customers, the team also had to remanufacture the cover so that it could be printed on, have fantastic sound properties and fit with ease. But it doesn’t stop there, the team would need to develop a platform that the staff within the franchise could order from, plus create superior packaging for this new product. The project would also need to be finically viable to generate additional profit from this new line of revenue.
For customers to even want to purchase these new covers and to give NuCONNECT the best chance of upselling, the team had to create beautifully designed covers that would become timeless. Our team of talented designers began work analysing WGSN trend reports and put together a collection of carefully selected designs. Whilst our designers were producing designs, determining the perfect material and analysing the mechanics of manufacture, the team approached world-renowned designers to create exclusive designs.
One of the many world-renowned designers that Odyssey and NuCONNECT partnered with was Maurizio Pellizzoni. Maurizio designs luxurious residential and commercial home interiors, furniture, products and experiences. His special edition featuring statement red lips on a white background, the design is fully immersed in the upper echelons of Italian style, exuding the essence of the icons of Italian cinema, where Maurizio drew his inspiration from.
“The inspiration behind this cover design is based on the Federico Fellini movies and some of the classic, iconic imagery of the stunning Sophia Loren in her earlier career days. I have always been a huge fan of those beautiful Italian movies and inspired by the attention to detail they pervade. Red is a very vibrant colour, full of life and in this design, portrays passion and a sense of classic glamour.
As a designer, I am always looking for new images to use in my projects and I keep a collection of them for potential projects. I was delighted to be asked by Bang & Olufsen to collaborate on the design for this iconic speaker and I immediately knew the red lips image from my collection would be perfect. Within budget and on time, the team at Odyssey delivered a beautiful collection of perfectly fitting A9 covers, all available through an online platform. As well as exclusive designer covers and the ability for B&O customers to provide their images and Odyssey will print any design they wish. All whilst adhering to Bang & Olufsen’s superior aesthetic, acoustic transparency values and focusing on the final results of the project.
The results speak for themselves, giving this franchise the ability to upsell products, created a whole a new revenue stream for stores. Working with world-famous designers such as Maurizio Pellizzoni and William Branton, plus a variety of world-renowned brands generated large amounts of PR and attracted several B2B enquires.
